At 23, this “Marvel” has become a multi-time Oscars and Grammy winner. Here’s how she reached those heights! At just 23 years old, this singer-songwriter has attained global fame through her unique musical style and chart topping songs. She has consistently sold out concerts, built a global fan base, and has established her place in pop culture through her social media presence. Since her musical debut in 2015, she has earned two Academy awards, nine Grammy awards, two Golden Globes awards, and even 20 Guinness World Records. Simply said, this artist has achieved what her contemporaries and most musicians spend their entire careers pursuing. Her name? Billie Eilish ! Eilish (born Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell) is the daughter of actress Maggie Baird and actor Patrick O’Connell. She is also the younger sister and musical collaborator of singer-songwriter and record producer FINNEAS (born Finneas Baird O’Connell). Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Eilish spent her childhood and early teenage years learning about songwriting and music from her mother, who was also a musician. Due to being exposed to music early, she began writing songs together with her brother at the age of 13. Once they finished writing and recording songs, they would upload them to SoundCloud , a popular platform where anyone could publish their own songs. SoundCloud proved pivotal to Eilish’s rise to fame, as this gave her the exposure she needed to put record labels on notice… and that’s exactly what happened in 2015 with the release of the song, “Ocean Eyes.” Written, mixed, and produced originally by FINNEAS for his own band, he eventually gave the song to Eilish for her to sing. Once the track was uploaded to SoundCloud, it became a viral hit overnight. Critics also praised the song for its “lush” and “lonesome” tone. “Ocean Eyes” was re-released for digital download and streaming in 2016 after Eilish signed with Interscope Records . Following this song, Eilish went on to release chart toppers like “Don’t Smile at Me,” “Lovely,” “Bury a Friend,” and “Therefore I Am.” Since 2019, she’s also released three studio albums: “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” (debut album, 2019), “Happier Than Ever” (2021), and “Hit Me Hard and Soft” (2024). As mentioned above, Eilish has received numerous accolades since her musical debut. When she won her first Academy award in 2022 for “No Time to Die,” she became the first person born in the 21st century to ever win an Academy award. When she won yet another Academy award in 2024 for “What Was I Made For?” she became the youngest ever to win two Academy awards in any category. There’s more! Eilish has also cemented her status in the music industry by making it into these prestigious lists:
These are just some of the accolades Eilish has earned throughout her young career. It won’t be surprising if she earns more along the way in the next several years. That said, what are the keys to her success?
With these in mind, it’s unsurprising to know that Eilish became a “Marvel” in the world of music. Even though she’s only 23 years old, she has already accomplished so much in her career! So, if you’re looking for inspiration, Eilish’s rise to fame is definitely worth looking into! Her authenticity, ability to collaborate, and penchant for interaction are qualities that are sorely sought out in this day and age, regardless of industry.
